areeeeeEx-Ghana U-17 team Assistant Coach, Isaac Opeele Boateng has expressed shock at Black Stars Coach Avram Grant decision to leave out Ibrahim Moro from his 23-man squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and settle on Mahatma Otoo as a late addition, stating that the Israeli trainer is not operating with a sane mind yet.
The former Chelsea Boss excluded Moro after naming the final squad for the Equatorial 2015 tournament comprising five defensive midfielders Edwin Gyimah, Daniel Amartey, Rabiu Mohammed, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Afriyie Acquah and six natural wingers; Solomon Asante, Christian Atsu, Mubarak Wakaso, Andre Ayew, Frank Acheampong and David Accam.
“I am saying this in context. Avram Grant does not have a sane mind yet because he has limited time to deliver. He is being fed like a computer. A coach who is operating with a sane mind will not exclude Ibrahim Moro, a typical number 8, a creative player. How do you pick a chunk of defensive midfielders and leave your creative player,” Opeele told Accra based radio station Asempa FM.
Otoo did not travel with the Black Stars to Spain after he was dropped from the 31-man provisional list. But, the former Hearts of Oak striker was handed a late call-up to replace Abdul Majeed Waris, who has been ruled out of the AFCON 2015 with an injury.
After scoring 9 goals in 27 league appearances for Sogndal in the Norweigian top flight last season, Coach Opeele Boateng believes Mahatma Otoo should have been handed a direct slot in the final 23-man squad.
“Which coach, who has a sane mind, will continually drag his feet before including Mahatma Otoo in the final squad? Mashaba has a sane mind because he knows his team and has played the AFCON 2015 qualifiers with the same set of players,” the former Asante Kotoko and Tema Youth trainer stated.
Avram Grant is preparing to name his starting line-up for the Black Stars second pre-AFCON 2015 friendly match against Cambuur SC on Thursday at 4.00pm Ghanaian time.
