Under the new system of the Israeli trainer, Daniel Amartey, Awal Mohammed and Jonathan Mensah were deployed in a 3-man backline while Harrison Afful and Baba Rahman were assigned wing-back roles. This system of play is different from the traditional 4-4-2, Ghanaian players have been familiar with for years.
“I can’t believe my eyes that a top Coach like Avram Grant couldn’t at least change something. If you have used a formation and you have seen that the boys are not familiar with it, you change the formation,” Gargo told STARR FM
“Let them play what they are used to because they weren’t doing well from the beginning,” the former Udinese Captain added.
The former Chelsea Boss indirectly announced his intention to use the new formation at the Equatorial Guinea 2015 after employing the system in the Black Stars two pre-tournament friendly matches against Portugese outfit Olhanense and Dutch club SC Cambuur.
The Black Stars must recover from the loss to the Teranga Lions and defeat the Desert Foxes of Algeria in their next group fixture on Friday to improve their chances of progressing to the quarter final stage.
