I never bribed Kenu – Asamoah Gyan

Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has strongly dismissed rumours that he bribed Daily Graphic’s Ashanti regional editor, Daniel Kenu to withdraw a case of assault against his (Gyan’s) brother Baffuor.

Gyan, commenting on the issue after his return from the Africa Cup of Nation’s, where he led the Black Stars to place second, said he was surprised about the rumours that he induced Kenu to withdraw the case from court.

Kenu pressed assault charges against Baffuor, elder brother of Gyan and some macho men who attacked him in September last year at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, over a question he posed to the Al Ain striker about his missing friend, Castro.

In a volte-face, however, Kenu dropped the charges on health grounds.

The rather dramatic development left many, on social media, imputing motives, including a possible inducement of Kenu by Gyan and the two other accused persons.

But speaking on Starr Chat with host Bola Ray Wednesday, Gyan said the allegations are baseless.

“We did not have any deal with him… he said he was withdrawing the case because of family pressure”.

The Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association described the development as disappointing. The Graphic Communication Group also dismissed Kenu but later reinstated him for want of proper procedure.
