The former Black Stars Goalkeeper’s trainer Abubakari Damba
has adviced local trainers to embark on massive training and attachments to
adequately prepare themselves for the coaching role of the Senior National
side.
The GFA sudden dismissal of Kwesi Appiah after the World cup did not go
well with some of the indigenous coaches, who still feel Ghanaian should lead
the Black Stars. Avram Grant becomes the 22nd expatriate coach to
handle the Black Stars since 1957 while six local trainers have been given the
opportunity to coach the senior national team, with Nana CK Gyamfi and Fred
Osam Duodu being the only tacticians to win Ghana’s four trophies. Abubakari
Damba believes local coaches must upgrade themselves to the latest trends of
World football before taking up the Black Stars Coaching post
“We always want to have our own but is our own ready, is our
own prepared to take up the mantle of coaching the Black Stars. I am saying that
there will come a time that we will be capable of managing our own affairs but
it must come with a lot of hard works, it must come with a lot of sacrifice on
how they need to enhance themselves before they can get there. Yes they need to
educate themselves further, they need to practice and go on attachments to get
to that level. Take it or leave, football is changing every single day and we
must be ready”.
