The line between Sports and
education in Ghana is very vast, Ghanians misconception about sports and
education is thwarting the economic progress of the country. I say this because
education and sports are the backbone of every country and if these two fail to
operate well, it de-progress the economy of the country. Days back when sports specifically football were
for vagabonds but we are in a modern world and it seems those thought still
lingers on the minds of many Ghanians. There is no doubt that we have progressed in
sport but there is still room for improvement. And I think that improvement
will be made if we are able tobridge the gap between sports and education. U.S, U.K,
Germany have done it and we can testify how far they have gone with sports. I
know this comparism is a sharp one but those countries are filled with humans
like just like us and if they’ve been able to do it why can’t we do same. In
2006 when Sports activities where managed by the ministry of education I
thought this mergence will be beneficial but things lied the same.
I think it’s about time the
sports and Education ministry collaborate and create sports institutional
avenues for grooming sports personnel. Ghanians are naturally gifted with
sports talent and those talent can be groomed if only we nurture it. There was
once a man with two kids, this man had a female friend who plays tennis and
earns 84000 annually, this man was surprised by the money the lady makes just
for playing tennis, he then bought a book on tennis and started teaching them
and one of her daughters Serena Williams is now one of the famous female tennis
player in U.S. this story tells us that if Serena who had no idea in
tennis was able to excel upon teachings from her dad how much our naturally talented
sports personnel.
A person can only be attracted
to a profession if that profession is attractive. It about time our ministry of
youth and sports collaborate with ministry of education to unearth young
sports personals and groom them for the profession and this can only work if
our pitches are worked on.
